Stupid errand as in do your boss's personal shit or stupid errand as in doing your job? Because it might be the latter based on the fact you were giving him PAPERWORK and that may be why he wants you fired. It's also really hard to fire someone for a "legitimate" reason anymore because it has to match exactly the corporate laws of what you gotta do to get fired. Ex: A cashier at food lion can let someone steal by voiding an item's price and not get fired because they did not steal it themselves
