i hate when comments get moderated. i get way more annoyed by moderated comments than i do by comments that are obnoxious/offensive/inappropriate (or break some other rule they moderate comments for). Who cares? I think we can handle it. But to the OP... the tax benefits are the the only reason i would get married. you can love each other, live together, make a lifetime commitment, have kids etc. without actually getting married.
I agree with #6. You're the one who gets a ring and will do most of the planning. Why should he be excited about that? Then again, I'm a girl and the only reason I'd get married is for tax benefits. Basically... quit your bitching and be happy someone at least wants to marry you.
sounds like he has some financial sense, so at least he's not a moron :P
Lol, aw it's okay. I'm sure he didn't realize how that came out. I'm sure tax benefits aren't the ONLY reason he would want to get married... it's just one of the more practical ones.
This "FML" actually made it through? I remember voting NO on this one. It's stupid and not really a FML. Pay more taxes then if you like and stay single and bitter forever.
It wasn't as if he was actually proposing to you when he talked about it. I think most of the people on here are right. Marriage is mainly just a certificate, and doesn't really change anything. I'm sure he's also excited because he wants to spend the rest of his life with you, but hey, saving money is always a plus. If it really bothers you that much, then talk to him about it. If you think he only wants to get married with you for financial reasons, and you don't like that, then say something!
I got married last year. I was surprised and excited how changing my W4 from single to married got me so much more money per pay check. Then we filed our taxes, we each got around $1,000 LESS back than we usually do. Apparently having children is the only way you get more money back on your taxes when you’re married. Your income and his will be combined putting you in a higher tax bracket. So get married and have a kid in the same year otherwise the tax benefits suck when its time to file.
Are you some kind of special? Just you get less money back doesn't mean you got charged more for taxes. What you get back is what the government OVER TAXED you. You need to keep track of how much you pay in taxes total to know the actual difference.
