Moving day

By Unemployed - 30/09/2009 09:03 - Malaysia

Today, I fell asleep during my division emergency meeting. As I about to head home that evening, my boss patted me on the back saying, "Wrong move. Good luck". Turned out, it was a meeting to determine who will be kicked out of the company due to recession. My name was written first on the list. FML

Look on the bright side: if you're unemployed now, you'll have plenty of time to sleep.

YDI sounds like you get what you deserved.

You fell asleep in a meeting, and then only after that, they decided to get rid of you. Sigh......

This is pretty awful. I have insomnia so I'll spend hours at night awake. Stick me in class and I'll get sleepy, at work too. But I tend to chew on something or avoid falling asleep or drink something with caffeine. You should have considered doing the same. :-(

At my last job they were on the verge of doing layoffs and I had another job offer so I praying for a layoff. I decided to act asleep at the big all hands meeting. Got the layoff and cashed in.

Well if it involves an important meeting, I think the OP can splurge and get some coffee or caffeine somehow to stay awake. OP=YDI

Instead of doing the mature thing and discussing things over with your boss/manager/employer. Yeah you're real cool. You're lucky that your job didn't need contact your old job and hear that you were sleeping in meetings.

Something similar happened to me. I got fired from a management position I had been in for 3 years because I gave what I thought was a simple yearly performance review while I was sick. Turns out the "review" was actually the district manager going around and finding out what people on the management staff didn't actually belong there because they didn't know their jobs. She fired me based on my answers while being pumped full of drugs, drowsy, and very obviously sick. And it wasn't like she didn't know I was sick, considering I had to call out of work for 2 days before the interview, postpone the interview, and go home after the interview because I was still sick.

If you fell asleep before you even knew what the meeting was about, you deserve to get fired. If you rarely fall asleep at work, you just have bad luck; otherwise, people like you are part of the reason an emergency meeting had to be called in the first place, in which case you would truly deserve to be fired.
