You're only ever meant to use his name when addressing a 3rd person, you're supposed to be using a pet name for him. Don't know if it's something to get angry about but using his actual name is like middle naming a kid.

It's because when you're significant other calls you by your first name instead of your pet name many assume that they're in trouble for something.

My girlfriend and I almost never use each other’s real names unless we’re being serious or we’re really mad. If you called him by his actual name when you never do that and he didn’t do anything to warrant it, I can understand why he’s mad.
