Today, I went to a job interview and, trying to sound confident, I shook the interviewer’s hand and said, "Nice to meet me." I didn’t get the job. FML

I kind of doubt that “nice to meet me” was the cause you didn’t get hired or followed up on. Look carefully at your resume and at the job requirements - That will likely point you to the problem… I have interviewed and been interviewed, a bit of nervousness is common in any interview. A good interviewer will start with small talk to try to put the person being interviewed at ease so they can get a sense of their actual skills, etc… FYI the very worst thing you can do is to claim skills or experience you don’t have. That will get spotted quick.
