Nice try, dude

By bigbill - This FML is from back in 2011 but it's good stuff - Canada

Today, I was presented with a bill for $27,601 by my single, alcoholic, deadbeat father. Why? "For having to raise your goddamn lazy ass." FML

I'm in the same boat. My intoxicated father calls me ungrateful even though I loaned him some money AND have seen him stealing from my wallet.

There is no law saying you have to pay it.

I love how its an exact number

How did he calculate it, did he fish out every single receipt and bill for everything since you were born because $27,601 is prettt darn specific.

Don't give him a penny. As your biological father, he has a legal obligation to provide for your needs while you are a minor without expecting recompense of any kind. Also, unless you both make the agreement beforehand that something is a loan, has strings attached, or requires repayment at a later date, any 'extras' he buys you while you were/are a minor or after you reached age 18 are considered either gifts or an extenuation of his parental obligations.

An effective counterpoint might be offering to discuss it with the cops, since 1) that's illegal and 2) mentioning cops to a deadbeat dad often reminds them of unpaid child support.
