I was taken to a funeral when I was 5 for my great grandfather, whom I'd never met. I ended up walking up to my great grandmother and asking, "Are you the wife of the man who died?" She was a very sweet woman and she just smiled and hugged me and said, "Yes, sweetie." I didn't get in trouble for asking, so I never knew until a few years later, I remembered the conversation and that the question was insensitive.
