Today, I'm in a relationship with a guy who yells at me everyday for things I didn't do, is in a dead-end job and is not attractive whatsoever, but I can't bring myself to break up with him because he would get to keep the dog. FML

I know people get attached to pets, but no dog is worth your dignity. The relationship is only going to get worse. Why are you so sure he would get to keep the dog? Is it because he would pull the 'I bought it, it's mine' card? Just kidnap him and keep him somewhere else. Say he got out and put fliers up to make it more believable. Then get 'depressed' over the loss, break up with him, reunite with the dog, and stay away from lousy guys from now on. :B

take the dog to your parents or something, but don't tell him, then come home tell him the dog ran away and then start bawling then break up with him.

I'm sorry, but I really have no tolerance for you in this situation. When he's out of the house for some reason (perhaps out with friends...Or make up an excuse for him to be gone?) pack up all of your stuff and just leave. It sounds like he doesn't deserve a goodbye. Take the dog with you.

#101 My understanding is that perhaps they both technically own it? If that's not the case and he's the technical owner of the dog, I'd leave the dog there...But I'd still leave.

wow. i would rather let him have the dog then get treated like shit. i don't put up with that... hopefully he will do something really bad to you so you will learn your lesson.
