Today, my boss had a breakdown and sent me home early. Apparently my voice reminds him of his abusive stepfather. He said I'm lucky he's on medication. FML

Sounds like an ideal situation to me. The boss can never give you shit, because all you gotta do is respond in an annoyed tone and it's "no daddy no!" for him.

Maybe you should go to your boss and quietly close the office door. Then, slowly hug him a little bit and tell him it's just a little secret between you two. Smell his hair a little, maybe.

I would communicate with him by e-mail or text or other forms of written communication. It is easier to remember stuff and he won't hear your voice. I'm sorry OP. I hope he can get the help he needs. This stepmother must have been some horrible for him to have a flash back. This is no reflection on you. ?
