Respect her boundaries

By Kathy04 - 22/12/2024 15:00 - United Kingdom - Swansea

Today, I finally convinced my shy new cat to come out from under the bed and hang out with me on the couch. I felt like a true cat whisperer until, in the middle of petting her, she jumped up, knocked over my mug, and spilled hot cocoa all over my book. She then looked at me as if I was the one who messed up. FML

Sometimes, they jump up because they have a static shock. Just keep talking to the cat and pretend it didn't happen.

Welcome to cat ownership. I agree with the other poster. My fuzzball HATES static. Won't touch synthetic fabrics. I actually have to keep an empty linen cushion cover on the back of the sofa and she'll stand next to you just staring at you until you put it on your lap for her. Only then will she step on the human. Try finding a natural material for yours to sit on and see if it happens again. Count yourself lucky though, when I was a kid we had a demon of a black cat, he used to stretch out on the plastic window sill in the sun and then he'd go looking for a human, be all cute until he could get his nose near yours and then zap you with the static. It was 100% deliberate and I swear he always smirked after...
