Borax (boric acid) sprinkled around the outside perimeter would have worked, unless you have pets. Then it's best to sprinkle under appliances were it's not accessible. It'll even get rid of a major roach problem. Demetrius earth is good for the yard to get rid of grubs, grasshoppers and other insects. It's not poisonous if consumed also. Gas though..... wtf. I hope your got water heater doesn't use a pilot light.
