No actually you marry the girl if her family wants to be involved they have to stay on good terms with both members of the marriage.

28 - you marry into a family, that's why there are names for the relations (father-in-law etc) and yes, while ideally everyone should get along you can't honestly expect someone to cut their family out because their boyfriend doesn't have the sense to look before he leaps figuratively speaking.
