Spare part

Today, I'm all alone for the holidays. The guy I was kicking it with ghosted me. I went to the guy I rejected for being too overweight for my taste, and not only has he lost weight, he now has a girlfriend. FML

It's OK to have preferences and to stick with them. You didn't know he was going to lose weight and I believe that simply being up front with people is actually less cruel than stringing them along. You did the overweight guy a huge favour because he used the rejection as motivation to lose weight and turned his life around, so kudos to him. He is much healthier now. Maybe volunteer at a soup kitchen or an animal shelter or even a suicide hotline to take your mind off your loneliness, because there are many places that could really use your help.

Well, use this holiday season to reflect on the fact that you never know what you have until you lose it. Writing out someone based on your selfish preferences can cause you to miss out on someone amazing. And you found out when it was too late. I was once that girl. Always rejecting guys who didn't fit my type and getting broken-hearted. I deviated from my usual type and I'm still going strong with him. Hope you learned your lesson. Find other meaningful people (Friends, family, etc.) to spend the holidays with, not just a partner.

You left out the part where she considered him her fallback option, which was not ok.
