Thanks dad.
Nice dad.
YDI for not keeping with trafic like he said. i drove around for a weekend without a speedometer and was just fine!
Yeah - you could have (well, really should have) gotten another fine for driving with faulty equipment.
Even a current, good mechanic can't fix a speedometer. It takes highly specialized tools and skills to work on speedometers. OP should buy a cheap GPS, they show your speed. Cheaper than having the speedo fixed.
BULL SHIT!!! A simple swap out takes less than an hour with basic tools and average mechanical knowledge, cheeper than $150 too. I'm not the type of person to make a claim unless I've done the work personaly. Granted I've never worked on high end stuff like lambo's and ferrari, etc..
IF it would be a simple swap... IF he had a good speedo to swap... plz... If you had half a brain...
You must suck at driving then, or at least getting out of a ticket, because my friend has been pulled over about 4 times with a busted speedometer and they all let him go.
exactly! The speedometer on my car was broken (still is actually but I don't drive it much) and I was fine. I drove it like that for a long time. You must suck at driving because it isn't that hard to go the right speed. And because cops generally have a certain leeway, you were probably really speeding. Telling the cop its broken doesn't mean shit. Its just too bad for you. I took a gps for a long trip and it worked fine too. If for some reason you can't judge your speed, you should have either gotten it fixed, or gotten a gps. YDI I got a ticket for going 80 in a 55. But I obviously knew I was speeding, and I didn't try too hard to talk out of it. The cop didn't care my speedo was broken. And my fine was only 125. So how fast were you going?
my dad drove for ages without his speedometer working. we've now got a new car.
Your dad was right, you just didn't hear the 'D' ;)
Well, I agree FYL. My fist car was a used car and when I started driving it the speedometer stopped working. I ended up getting it fixed but it cost me the price of a mechanic going in, finding that he couldn't fix it, shipping me to the dealership that charged me 700$ for the piece, plus the cost of labour. If I would have known, I would have avoided getting it changed too.

YDI for not getting it fixed, regardless what your father said.
What if you're the only car on the street, on a school zone?
