Strapped for cash

Today, as I spent my last $6 on groceries, the woman at the register gave me a dirty look because I declined to donate $1 to a children's charity. My six year-old son immediately chimed in with, "Mommy, why aren't you helping the poor children?" FML

Don't worry about the woman. She's a bitch. You didn't have to donate if you didn't want to. You could have just told your kid that was the last of your money.

People are so rude. You can't donate to everyone especially when you don't have spare change.

I hate when I get a dirty look for stuff like that. I used to go to wal-mart on my break during my co-op term. They'd see me in a fancy shirt and shoes, and act all offended if I said no to giving a dollar. I only said no because I was there every day, usually only buying like $5 worth of stuff, plus I'm $25 000+ in debt from school, and worked at the Cancer Society for less than minimum wage. Still, they see a good attire and they think you're a greedy prick.

i know how you feel. I remember my husband and I saved up for THE ENTIRE YEAR to buy a TV and a gaming system for my son last year for christmas (we've never had a lot of money for gifts, so we thought we'd pinch pennies and make it memorable for him) I picked it up on my way home from work (so i was still wearing my suit... my only work clothes by the way....) and as I was leaving i walked by the salvation army bell ringer and he was like "are you SERIOUSLY not going to donate anything? look what you just bought!" I really wanted to poke that guy in the face with my fist!! why do they think guilt is going to get you to donate anything?

gosh that is really rude!! A guy approached me last week and told me I was a bad person because I refused to sign up to paying $40 a month for a starving kid as I'm pregnant myself and need to save money. he followed me down the street until I threatened to beat the crap out if him. people can be so pushy!! ;)

You theatend to beat the crap out of someone? a pregnant FEMALE thinks shes going to beat the crap out of a man? good luck bitch theres a reason why females dont have rights because they're weak

Shoulda said to your son "i am helping poor children. I am buying groceries for you"

"Because honey, you are the poor children"

i dont understand how u only have $6 for groceries but you have a computer to write an FML on.

You do realize that people can buy things before their financial situation declines and still use them, right?

And there are these fantastic things called libraries too. And friends (although these don't always have computers that you can use)

It's not your kids fault for asking an innocent question. Maybe if he had a better understanding of the value of money he would not have asked. Next time just tell him that - until payday - you are the poor people and you can't afford it.

Nawh, it is a woman. The "plant" is a tattoo, I believe. Either way, it IS a woman, Google the full image. Your mind'll be blown.

I think the bigger issue is that you've just spent your "last six dollars on groceries" and instead of worrying about how you're going to feed both yourself and your child for the rest of the month, you're worried about what some person you may never even see again thinks of you.

Did you consider that it may be their last six dollars until payday? They could be getting paid in a week and just really needed a few items now.

Maybe you should have thought about this before you told your boyfriend not to wear a condom. Teen moms deserve it.

This is one of the most judgmental things I've ever read on here and that's really saying something. I hope you realize the stupidity of your statement.

Congratulations on being a parent and allowing your funds to get as low as $6. believe it or not, fiscal responsibility is part of raising another human being from birth. maybe you shouldn't have spent your previous hundred on drugs and birth control. in all fairness, I suppose the birth control was wise.

I suppose your name is appropriate choice since you feel the need to leave such asshole comments. Do you not consider that the OP may be fiscally responsible but something unexpected came up that wiped out their funds? They could have had to have major repairs done on their car so they can continue to get to work. They may have recently lost their job. There may have been some kind of medical emergency. You shouldn't be so judgmental without the whole story.
