I'm fine with someone doing better than me at schoolwork, even under pressure, but while high as a kite… wow.
It sucks OP it really does :( If it helps, I am sure most people have had an experience like that at least once where they try really hard and someone who doesn't just gets great grades. The skills you are learning in planning and dedication and self-control whilst working on your essay will be invaluable in later life - that is one of the reasons we get essays and such - it is all about managing time which in the long run can be more important. And that guy won't have those.
So true! Being disciplined and able to manage your time and get things done on schedule are all really important skills for later on in life, and it looks like your roommate isn't learning those skills.
Looks like the roommate doesn't need to.
I'll never understand why people hold a grudge against those who have an easier time of it in school. School is the one time in life where competition is not a zero sum gain. Which is to say, if someone cheats on a test an aces a class, it doesn't negatively affect you at all. If they skip school and do drugs all day but graduate on time you are no worse off. At any other point in life you're competing in the job market, or business or court or whatever, but in school, shit does not matter. Not even when they apply for jobs or colleges after graduation, because performance in school is a drop in the bucket compared to ambition and money.
Hard work will pay off in the future, don't give up
Sounds like your roommate is kind of a badass. Maybe you should ask him for some pointers on the class.
Some people do better under pressure or pressed for time...don't worry OP...you'll be fine...
Some people are just rock stars like that. Suck it up and get back to writing. If you give up because it's easy for someone else, you're just going to become a giver upper.
Why would you assume that because your roommate was stoned that it would be detrimental to his intelligence? Some people are better writers, I'm sure you may have different skills that you excel at. Why would you need the textbook if perhaps that information was fluent to your thoughts? OP marijuana is not a hinderance. I feel it brings out what is already within. In some people's cases it's not helpful, in others it can bring out the best.
Lesson learned: smoke weed
Sounds like you need to get stoned yourself now
Keywords
Some people are just naturally better at writing than others. Don't beat yourself up about it OP.
Don't give up! Education can be stressful, but you aren't doing any good by comparing yourself to others. His paper may read better, but yours could contain the information your professor is after.
