I think you were meaning to write "9th century" peasants in England stopped existing in around the 1300s
As a person who had whooping cough, I can say that it SUCKS. I coughed so hard that I vomited on multiple occasions, including Christmas. I busted a blood vessel in my eye from the coughing and my eye proceeded to fill up with blood almost reaching my pupil. Although I will agree it is not as bad as having polio, cancer, or AIDS, or a terminal illness, it is a miserable experience nonetheless.

Sounds like #6 has it. Nearly eradicated in developed nations since the 1970s, whooping cough is apparently on the rise again because modern parents are all sociopaths/brave protectors of precious snowflake. Go, parents!
