Today, I paid my daughter a surprise visit, only to see her husband beating her. I charged in and slammed him into the wall. She screamed at me to stop. They'd recently gotten into martial arts and were sparring, and now he's got a broken arm. FML

Or he was actually beaten her and she found some lame excuse to cover it up. From the sound of it, it doesn't sound like they were in martial art stance.

I'd say that from the context, you did the right thing. And, if they've gotten into martial arts, he should have been able to stop you when you charged in, even though he might have been a little surprised by the situation.
