How do you not see a boat before you see small flower peddles? If the beach is so crowded that you didn't realize it was a funeral it probably wasn't because people just don't have funerals in very crowded areas, (or at least it will attract everyones attention) If it was a calm area how do you not notice one boat floating on the water? You were either: A. an Idiot, B. someone who posted a fake FML. (I think A and B) And why are people trying to tell you it's not your fault? Yes it is your fault. Who cares if it's a public place IT'S A FUNERAL!? Just because it's in a public place does not make it okay to do whatever you please around it. :-)
I'd say the tanning fried your brain and left you unaware of anything happening around you.
Really? 10 cut roses floating in the ocean and you don't stop to think why they're there? Also, how can anyone have the heart to say it's the fault of the people in the funeral? How can you possibly place fault upon someone trying to harmlessly pay their respects to the dead? How heartless.
Agreed. YDI to the OP. OP is an idiot.
thank you #28. you said that in much nicer words than i would have. i was going to call OP a dumb ****. oh well i guess i just did.
So I know this is an old thread, but Jesus, gumibehrs! Did you really need to post the same bitchy comments a dozen times?
I no aye lol
Who the **** has a funeral RIGHT next to the beach? You go out a bit. This dumbass still deserved it, but, it's not ENTIRELY their fault.
Sounds like there's a good chance that it was a cremation ceremony. That probably means you were swimming in some dead person's ashes...Eww.
I think it's sort of depressing to require that the flowers float away and rot. People picking them up and playing with them sounds much more romantic, if you ask me. And yes, if you really want control over what happens to the flowers, don't throw them into public waters.. I wouldn't be on the lookout for funerals wherever I go, a beach least of all.
Maybe picking them up and taking them home or giving them to loved ones, yes. But some idiot girl tearing them up and throwing them at her friends? Hell no.
I agree, people shouldn't have funerals at public beaches. But it's possible that the beach was important to the person who died, and they asked for their ashes to be spread in it.
First off, How did you think the roses got there? If I saw a bunch of random roses in the ocean I would assume that they were either from a funeral or a loved one who had laid them there own there own for sentimental reasons. People don't just get roses to throw in the ocean and roses don't grow at the beach. Secondly, You were probably swimming around in some dead guys ashes.
yeah I know, because I see roses floating in the water by public beaches all the time and automatically know it's for a funeral.....idiot
I am truly astounded by the stupidity of some people! Chances are it was a MEMORIAL not a funeral. Disposal of ashes at sea is covered by a lot of rules, namely that you have to actually be at SEA, not near a beach. Wearing black and white is culturally appropriate, or could have simply been at the prior request of the deceased or their family. Floating flowers in memory of the deceased is extremely common, let the tide take their spirit and your tears, it's the aquatic version of "ashes to ashes". Ever heard of the Vikings - all their burials were at sea and we take a lot of our symbolism from them. The mourners must have been devastated to see their symbolic gesture destroyed for the amusement of a fried kipper *gah* There's a whole world functioning around you OP, take the time to observe it, understand it and possibly even learn from it.
Extremely common historically? Maybe. Extremely common in Florida where the OP is posting from? Not so much.
Not a funeral, not a funeral, not a funeral - which bit are people missing? M E M O R I A L! That location would have had special meaning for the family and friends, you can't have a funeral at the beach. Anyone remember the Indonesian tsunami? They floated flowers in the ocean in memorial to the victims. Or leaving flowers at the site of 9/11? Flowers, placed in the place of death is significant. Who's to say the deceased wasn't killed at that beach? That's where they were being honoured.
well the difference isn't really relevant to the situation posted by the OP now is it?
Funerals at sea are..... at sea! Not on the beach, or near the beach and they're covered by lots of rules so people don't end up swimming in dead folk. Nothing stupid about wanting a burial at sea, I do - never heard of being made into a reef though, don't the ashes disperse?
haha, awesome.
YDI for being stupid! don't you know that tanning ruins your skin. premature wrinkles and skin cancer - DUH! my mom just had a squamous cell carcenoma removed. it was SO gross!!
YDI for your airheadedness being SO strong it translates into your writing!! DUH! Seriously, who says "it was SO gah-ross!"

I can't blame you for picking up the roses. I might have done the same thing. I didn't know that people still do boat funerals.
