Today, a fifth grader gave me a note from his "father" excusing him from PE. It was riddled with spelling errors and shockingly poor grammar, so I rejected it as a blatant fake. Several hours later, I was informed by his very angry father that it wasn't actually fake. FML

@1, says the person who doesn't know the difference between of and 've.

"Should of"? Jesus. That's like nails scraping across the English class' chalkboard.

last I checked you needed a doctors note to be excused from PE and a parents note to leave, but maybe thats just my school

That's how it was in my school corporation too. PE had to be a doctor's note, no excuses.

Depends on the school. Some schools allow a parent's note for a day or two but require a doctor's note for longer than that (that was my high school's rule). That was never a problem for me, though, since my mom is a doctor.

In my parish a parent could only excuse you for 3 consecutive days. After that you needed a doctor's note.

@57, The corporate organizational model is not just used by for-profit businesses. Many governmental enterprises, especially municipalities, and nonprofit organizations use this structure. I know that Indiana in particular has many of its schools organized into corporations.

When a professional educator can't discern a parent's writing from a fifth grader's that a call from the universe to get one's shit together.

Problem; most adults nowadays have handwriting that isn't similar to a 10 year old.

The increase in focus on the ability to type has resulted in a decrease in the focus on the ability to actually write by hand. As a result the legibility of peoples handwriting is going down. Penmanship, like any skill, requires practice and if you stop practicing it gets worse. The fact that most adults type anything of any length or importance means they have very few reasons to practice their penmanship.

F the father's life for writing at a fifth grade level (assuming English was his first language)

his father could have learning disabilities

wtf happened to needing a doctors note to excuse you from gym
