And to anyone saying I could have left... He picked me up in his car and drove me to the place. The car ride home was equally fun.

What would it have been if he broke up over text? This isn't an FML! Delete my account!
idiot should have waited until after dinner at least.
Um maybe coffee would have been the best choice.
I think he at least respected you enough to do it in person. He may have made a bad choice with the setting, but it seems like he was at least trying to do the right thing. It seems more like he found someone that fits him better, but he can tell you are a good person.
Woo, Australia! Sorry about your "date" though :/
Sorry 88 meant to be thumbs up
Haha, no worries :P
I would have just stated that was cool, and say a simple quick meet would have been fine and left. Why wait for food awkwardly, then eat awkwardly, then leave awkwardly...?
And this is why I prefer cats ;D There never silent.
Totally his bad on that one OP. I would say call a friend for pick up. But seriously, if he was going to give you that talk, he could've just said meet me at a coffee shop or something
I dunno...all though I wouldn't bash him for being honest...at the age of 20...I would of at least had the conversation at least once as far as where we stood...even if both were wanting just NSA it's always the mature thing to know where you stand. I just don't think it's cool he was still sleeping with her and didn't want a gf but managed to find one...I would assume he was sleeping with both..and if OP was unaware of that....that's where I'd be a lil upset..the dinner may have been awkward but glad OP was classy about it.

Well good thing it wasn't awkward or anything right?
You didn't have to wait in silence with him, you could have just left...
