Today, a person came into McDonald's, where I work. They ordered a happy meal. As they were an adult, I assumed the meal was for their child, who wasn't with them. When I asked if the toy was for a boy or a girl, they said the toy was for them. I still had to ask if it was for a boy or a girl. FML

I hate how they always assume you want a certain kind of toy based on your gender. I may have been a little girl, but I wanted the toy car, not the toy barbie. And guess which one they always gave me. :(

yeah, I work at Mcdicks to, and I get those everynight since I work overnight. not only do they DEMAND a toy, after they order (in drive thru mind you) they drive off like idiots leaving you with a happy meal sitting there molding all night long. you have it easy my friend. Notice you are from ontario too. Ottawa, 4416 Innes Rd.

YDI You don't need to know if it's for a boy or a girl. Just put in whatever toy you grab first. If they don't like it and come back, replace it (if unopened).

i had some one ask me what a big mac was...after he ordered it

That sucks, but you could've asked, "Which would you prefer?".

I love ordering a Happy Meal! I remember once in high school eating at McD's for a field trip and sitting on the little cheeseburger stools. Some little boy came and sat with me and we played race cars until I had to leave. I love just acting like a kid sometimes, even though I'm 20. Age is a number :) To the OP, as someone who looks androgynous, your question would probably be mildly irritating, but nothing embarrassing. I am constantly asked whether I'm a guy or girl and can shrug it off. I know what I am and am happy with myself, it's no big deal if they're that ambiguous. They're likely asked all the time.

This shouldnt be your FML it should be theirs. OMFG!!!! lmao

actually as McDonalds workers, we are supposed to say would you like a truck or doll toy. it's not about gender, it's about your preference. If this person did their job right then it wouldn't have seemed so bad. and I know all about it since I work at Mcdonalds.

That's funny because I've ordered lots of Happy Meals and they always ask boy or girl. But really, just pick a toy. If they come back and say you gave them the wrong one, just say you picked up the wrong toy by accident.

that's when you just ask if they would prefer the girl toy or the boy toy. akward situation avoided.

That's why you should always say: do u want a boy toy or a girl toy? NOT: is it for a boy or a girl?
