It sounds like your boss is afraid of her if he didn't have escorted it for throwing a tantrum like a child even though she already quit.

OP I would check the facts on this one. Some companies that hire someone for full time attempt to accept a request for part time as a resignation so they can just hire another full time employee. I have seen this rather nasty tactic used more than once on the gamble an employee won't fight it and will accept the situation. Or they will simply start scheduling almost no hours so the person cannot survive and will look elsewhere for work. I would say not to judge the situation prematurely.

What field of work are you in? It is difficult to make suggestions not knowing if you work construction or in a health care facility. Never the less, give her the most mundane jobs that no one else wants to do.

I'm just happy this isn't one of those FMLs where the boss fires op and give the other woman the job. But anyway just give her some hard tasks that way she wants to quit.
