Today, after 10 months of hard work, it was the opening night of the show I was directing. Everybody loved it, except my mother. She called it the worst thing she'd ever seen. Thanks for the support, mum. FML

At least you still received the support of the crowd! Good job!

Maybe mother doesn't know best this time.

obviously your mum has some issues but what she says is not a reflection of your work, just of her issues

Wooooow! It takes a true friend to be that truly honest!

Can't please everyone. Just because she's your mom doesn't mean she can't form an opinion. I know moms that think their little angels are "perfect" and praise them despite their accomplishment and work (hard or not). Support is great but so is honesty. What was so bad about it in her eyes? Was there something in the show that would "personally" get her offended? Such as a racy topic, revealing wardrobe, dark humour? Etc... (My folks are religious so everything can trigger their offense and they wouldn't hold back).

There a difference between having an opinion about the show, and calling it "the worst thing I've ever seen". It clearly hurt OP's feelings, and I find it wrong when parents intentionally bring their children down. What OP needed what constructive criticism, not an insult. The mother definitely could've got her point across without being rude to her child.

Honesty is nice but saying it is the worst thing ever is very assholish

It's okay OP. You can't please everyone.

If you loved the way it turned out and the audience minus your mother loved it too than you should be really happy and proud of yourself :)

Your mom is the biggest critic of your life. Brush it off champ

hey op the audience loved it and if they paid for the showing, then even better. be proud of it , it may be jealously or simply she's not into it. good luck on your career.

I never understood mothers or parents in general. I mean, yeah, your kids can screw up from time to time and you should yell at him/her for it, if it's like drunk driving or being addicted to a certain drug or something or the other. But calling your kid a screw up for putting his best effort or doubting your kids when they need your support the most? now that's just wrong
