Today, after 10 months of hard work, it was the opening night of the show I was directing. Everybody loved it, except my mother. She called it the worst thing she'd ever seen. Thanks for the support, mum. FML

At least you still received the support of the crowd! Good job!

Maybe mother doesn't know best this time.

Who the hell rehearses for ten months for one show?

People who want it to be good and are serious about it. It is very hard work.

Wow that is just what my mom would say !!!

Take it as constructive criticism...I'm sure it was fine...but if that's the worst thing she's seen have her watch Gigli or something..

Constructive criticism is not saying that it's the worst show she's ever seen, it's politely pointing out how something can be made better. Saying that something is the worst show you've ever seen is not very nice, especially if you're saying it to your daughter, who has worked very hard at something!

True...but no matter whom it may be from it can have them excel in their achivements...

Rude comments from parents have two effects. It can push the child to work harder, or in most cases it just hurts the kid and ruins their self esteem. Parents should NEVER insult their children because they child will most likely believe it, since they usually trust their parents the most. Having some random person insult your work is one thing, having your own mother call it the worst thing she's even seen will surely hurt someone.

The good thing is that everyone else enjoyed it. You can't please everyone.

Perhaps the woman may be trying to push you even further.

I'm sorry OP, this really sucks. you know in your heart you worked hard and gave it your best! so you should be proud!

Oh mothers, you've got to love them. Because it is illegal to drown them.

It's just one production. As long as it was a success, it's okay she personally didn't like it.

Of course it's okay she didn't like it, but it's just ******* rude to tell your child that their hard work was the worst thing you've ever seen. OPs mother didn't have to be a bitch in order to say she didn't like the play. Insults from parents hurt more than anything.

You should be disappointed, with your mum. She's not a nice person, but I think you already know that. It's time to distance yourself from her toxic behavior.
