Today, after adjusting me, my chiropractor said I should stop sitting for long periods of time, because it's likely the reason for my chronic back pain. My job is as his front-desk receptionist. He yells at me if I'm not at my seat. FML

OP here:) Y'all are pretty nice xD I should have been more specific...if I'm standing even an inch from my chair I receive comments about how I should not take the job lightly and someone could come in. What's even more ironic is that he actually recommends that I stretch in the back room, but like I said, I am given a talking to if I move much further than the printer...all in all I do enjoy my job:) I was very lucky to get it at all and I'm saving up for college. I doubt that I'll be able to fix my back issues at the university, but I'll do my best:) Kisses, Sophie ?

Maybe you should have a conversation with him about it...

Get a "doctors" note from him, just so you can flash it in his face when he questions why you're standing at work. I'm sure you both will appreciate the redundancy.

They legally have to accommodate you if you're prescribed a sit/stand station. Get one! It's saved my back!

Try getting a yoga ball office chair! I have one at my desk job and it is ah-mazing. My posture is way better, my back doesn't hurt as much anymore, and it's a core work out everyday. Plus you can bounce around on it when you're bored and it's still technically working out. (just be sure not to do it with anyone around or you'll get some pervy comments)

You should try a large yoga ball. It should help.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe a stability ball would help. I'm not a doctor though.

I really enjoyed when I had a standing desk. if they won't buy one of those adjustable ones (i had a varidesk), sometimes you can rig some boxes and books so your keyboard and everything is at standing height. good luck!

Discuss the matter with your boss and see if some accommodation can be made, like raising your desk so you can stand. Also, go see a doctor (as in MD) and get diagnosed. This will help with any ADA claim you may need to make if your boss is unwilling to work with you and you need to escalate.

ask if you can work while sitting on a space hopper. No one will see it and it does great things for your back! (or just use one at home if he doesn't allow it)
