St. John's Wart is supposed to help lighten your mood naturally. And like others have said, diet and exercise always helps also. And this is just something I do to help... Usually if I find myself thinking negatively I'll try to switch it around and find the positive things instead. For every negative thought try to think of a positive.
You know what they call "natural alternatives" that actually work? Medicine.

you have to admit, that was quick witted. You could also try meditation. I sometimes struggle with seasonal affective disorder (basically depression during winter) and I find that meditation helps a lot with it. I never even had it this year and it was the worst winter in my country since before I was born. Something like metta bhavana meditation is good for making you happy.
