My immediate family isn't religious, but my grandparents were. My sister was not harshly reprimanded or anything of the sort as she has not been exposed to religion and doesn't understand it at this point in her life. Thank you for all of your kind comments; I wasn't close with my grandmother but it's still a heartbreaking event.

Show it anywaySeriously? Why is there so much active negativity on here?! Do you really have nothing better to do than put down other people's beliefs?
well considering how much those beliefs impact the world its no wonder the negativity.
yes they impact the world but that is bexause they used to be part of everyones everyday life. a lot has been done to seperate the two. not enough yet but we are getting there. the vast majority of any religious body do not try to force their beliefs on everyone its just a shame that their minority is so vocal.
I'm an atheist, I'll go right out and say it. But there is SOME truth rooted in religion. Places, and events, have been proven, at least a few.
60 I would love to hear all about your proof of religion.
Noah's flood really did happen. They have evidence that that region of the world was flooded at one point. It might not have been "the world" but that was "the world" to them at the time. That sort of thing was 60 was probably talking about. However religion is and should be about the core beliefs and we should stop fussing over details.
Floods happen all the time; doesn't prove anything.
I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sure your sister didn't realise the impact of what she said. She's only nine.
Children and fools tell the truth! (But to be honest: Not the best time for this, so FYL)
I noticed that when I saw this the number of I agrees was equal to the devils number (666)
She's right.
in a physical sense yes she was. No matter what your belief is Jesus was not physically there, if he was that's a bit awkward all things considered.
Fair point
Jesus indeed was alive, whether you are religious or not...
That's still highly contested. The evidence is that somebody or a few were named the same/similarly roughly at that time. People argue that's just differences in how different regions kept records and historian errors or writing style differences. But others argue that's bs. Put very simply.
so uncool dude .. you should be extremely ashamed. just because you don't believe, doesn't mean that others don't, and you don't know if God does exist or not, you might meet him when you die. no one honestly knows that he does exist. I'm atheist, but I don't go around telling people "God doesn't exist so deal with it". let them believe what they want, and stop being such a ********
There are records of a person whose basic details match up with Jesus' (born in Bethlehem near Nazereth to Joseph and Mary and was crucified, was a miracle worker etc.) We have no evidence he was the son of God or that the miracles he performed were anything more than magic tricks, but we have evidence he at least existed. Christianity was well spread with two Schisms by a millennium after Jesus' death.
When you said magic tricks. It instantly made me think of that episode of Family Guy where they cut to Jesus doing the horrible fingers as rings trick. Lmao!! Made my morning. :)
The Romans took census' of their population just like we do. Just because it was that long ago does not mean that no one took any records or that all were destroyed.
Kids will speak their minds like that sometimes (usually in horribly embarrassing situations hehe). She'll make her own decision on religion in time, don't force it too much. Sorry for your loss OP.

Somebody better do something quick! The brainwashing isn't working... This one might actually be a freethinker. Can't have that!
What is so wrong about being religious? I'm honestly stunned and appalled at the lack of open mindedness on here. It's exactly what atheists accuse "bible thumpers" of always doing. I'm agnostic at the moment, but only because I'm trying to learn as much as I can about religion before I choose my own beliefs. Death and grieving can be very spiritual. Since OP's grandma was religious, I would expect that everyone would respect that. Especially at her funeral.
