Today, after visiting friends for the weekend, I took the wrong train home. It was going in completely the opposite direction. I've now missed the last train back, will miss work tomorrow and have just been asked to vacate the train station. I'm 120 miles from home. FML

Quackadoodledoo tells us more.

I was watching a tv series on my tablet...after one episode (45 minutes) I looked on Google maps to see how far I had got and that's when I realised! It was a cross country train and the next station was 60 miles from where I got on the train. A place called Darlington. If I had stayed on the train all the way I would have ended up on Edinburgh!

If you get walking should make it home by Monday of the next week.

Ydi because you should have paid more attention, but Fyl because you are probably stuffed.

If he doesn't fall over and die from overexertion.

Try explaining the situation to a worker at the station maybe? Hopefully they can do something

The most they could do is organize a cab. But if the trains have already stopped running there may not be anyone manning the station.

Trust me as a New Yorker train stations can be pretty confusing especially if you're not in that area constantly

I don't know about New York but here in Australia it's really hard to go the wrong way by 120 miles unless you're really stupid. But Op is in Nottingham wherever that is.

Nottingham is in England, the trains and transport system here isn't very complex. OP should spend the night at a hotel, go back to the station and ask a worker or steward for help and get back home safely. Mistake made but a lesson learned.

#10, what is your problem? You don't gave to be such a dick about it.

#10 is quite right. It is very hard to do this in UK. Especially since they tell you at least twice where the train is heading inc where it stops and its on the platform

Or since he was with friends, he could have been drunk.

I really have no clue how I made such a mistake. It said my train was at platform 12C. I got on the train at platform 12C! I'm still angry lol. But I'm home now :)

How did you manage to go that far without noticing?

Maybe it was an express train and they did notice, but couldn't get off before that stop.

Damn British people and your trains...

Maybe next time you'll pay attention instead of being absorbed in your tablet, being oblivious to your surrounding. Ydi

Yes. He deserves it for entertaining himself on a most-likely otherwise boring train ride.

Or OP could just set an alarm next time.

So, they are expected to just sit there, awkwardly staring in to space

I've been in your situation before. Sorry OP. I hope you had someone to pick you up.

Why not call your boss to let him/her know the situation you're in, and call your friends and see if they could help?

that would make OP's mistake rather expensive.

Yes, but sometimes we have to pay for our mistakes.

Unfortunately not every city has a nearby taxi service, especially one that is willing to go such long distances.

That sucks! If I were you I would be really freaked out! Hopefully you caught a taxi or found a lift

I hate being lost where I don't even know the name of the town.
