Today, and since forever, I hate vegetables. I’ve been in Argentina for a few days for a one year exchange and I’ve been placed into a vegetarian family. FML

How does one "hate vegetables" though? I mean, I get that you might not like certain vegetables, but there's so many vegetables and so many ways of cooking them that I can hardly imagine you wouldn't be able to find some that you like. Not eating any vegetables is quite unhealthy, so maybe instead of complaining about this, you should take it as an opportunity to become a less picky eater. You can always go to a restaurant if you feel like you need meat from time to time.

On the bright side, this may lead you to find a vegetable that you do like, not everything is just uncooked greens.

Today, I'm blessed with the opportunity to spend a year in Argentina immersing myself in a new culture, but I'm going to piss and moan about vegetables. FML

There's so many different kinds of vegetables, that all have different flavors and textures and ways to prepare/cook them. How can you not like ANY? Have you honestly actually tried many of the veggies you say you hate?

That is unfortunate, but vegetables are necessary for good health, and this is a great opportunity to learn to like vegetables. Also, you'll still have access to meat, and if you ask your host family, they might even get some meet to accommodate your needs.

So is meat though. Read the articles. Science proves it. Hopefully the host family will give them access to meats as well... http://time.com/4252373/meat-eating-veganism-evolution/ https://authoritynutrition.com/7-evidence-based-health-reasons-to-eat-meat/ https://breakingmuscle.com/fuel/why-all-humans-need-to-eat-meat-for-health

Vegetables aren't a staple in every vegetarians diet though. Many of them eat no more than most meat eaters.

Try eating them after being boiled in water. I've been eating them like this for at least two years now, and even I'll down Broccoli and Cauliflower trees. Even soaking them in Sunny D helped.

shit,man.. soaking them in Sunny D... really?.. that sounds narsty. I can't even imagine. nor do i want to.. >_>

Just explain to them that you are not vegetarian, and refuse to be vegetarian. If that doesn't work, you should contact your exchange program and demand to be either returned home, or switched to a different family. If they refuse, claim that it is on moral/religious grounds due to them forcing you to eat a diet you are not comfortable with. Explain if they don't let you back or switch families, you will contact police and give that exchange program very bad reviews. If you do that, I promise you, the exchange program will switch you or let you return, rather than risking legal problems or bad reviews I know the above is kind of an "extreme step", BUT, I can promise you it will 100% work. If you arent really that concerned about the vegetables, then ok fine, deal with the vegetables. BUT, if this truly is like an "oh my god im going to hate my entire life for 365 days" sort of thing? Then stop being a p*ussy, grow some balls, and do what I recommend. It WILL work. It just requires you have the guts to do it. I own a business, so trust me, I know what would make a business do whatever it takes to help you out

That is so disrespectful to a family that opened their home to a stranger and to the well-meaning program that funds new experiences for students. Unless your health and safety is at risk you shouldn't be threatening to call the police. OP, make the best of the situation and communicate with the family to find meals that work for you.

Yes, that's why I said (paraphrased) that "If you can bear eating vegetables, then do so, and you should only do this if you absolutely cannot stand the vegetables and your life would be unbearable for the next year". I have no issue with vegetarians, so don't take this comment I posted personally. Although I eat a well rounded diet myself, I understand vegetarians care about animals deeply and want to save as many as possible. I think that is commendable. Also, although it may be disrespectful, sometimes disrespect is unavoidable. If they say it in the most respectful way possible, it minimizes any disrespect. Example- "Hey, I really enjoy being around you guys! You guys are awesome, fun, people with a beautiful family and a warm loving home. I really want to stay, is it possible if you please cook me some meals with meat in them? If we absolutely cannot agree on this, I apologize but I'd need to switch only because of the diet. I know it may seem silly but I can't eat this diet, for personal reasons. It has nothing to do with you guys, it's just the diet." Unless the family is extremely narcissistic, they should be willing and able to understand that not everybody is going to agree with them on what foods they eat. It's not even something personal that should be offensive, that's just a dietary thing. If that would offend you, then there's some deeper issues in life to work out. IJS

Lmfao contact the police? What are you going to say? Officer they're trying to feed me brocolli! Honestly what your advising is completely disrespectful to both the exchange program and the host family. To be that pushy in an attempt to just avoid something you dislike or makes you uncomfortable and so you can get you're way is what's wrong with our society and why people never learn self growth.

vegetables aren't that bad if you don't include eggplant of course. but wow such bad luck I say

You sound like a little kid. Grow up and eat your vegetables.
