I think you're reading him wrong. Guys have 4 basic needs: sex, sleep, eat, admiration (usually achieved through sports bonding, ********, or *shiny* electronics/bling) his groan could relate to any of the four. The fact that he made a groan at all, is the primative communication for pleasure.
