Hey everyone, OP here. This actually happened a few months ago when I was studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland. Yes, I had already had a few drinks. I was also with several other study abroad students who were from Spain and Italy and everyone unanimously agreed that the two men were speaking French. It probably didn't help that we weren't very close to them and it was loud in the bar. The two men were actually from Denmark and they were speaking Danish. I definitely learned my lesson never tried to do anything like that again.

so I'm guessing there was no Danish doughnut making then?
I actually can see how you could mistake the language for French though. Just the other day I was watching a Danish film and there were a couple parts when the actors spoke that it sounded similar to French to me.
What pub were you at? I live in Dublin.
I thank you for thinking that danish sounds like french. I'm a dane myself, and usually I'm told we sound like we're speaking with a potato in our mouths, that our language is flat and boring, so to be compared to a language that a lot of people find romantic and beautiful is awesome!
#65, if it makes you feel good, i actually love the Danish language! But I don't think it sounds like French which is fine for me since that's my least favourite language.
This may be the funny beginning of a long love story
My father tried to seduce my mother by pretending he was serbo-crotian when they were young (he heard she dated a greek guy before him and guessed she liked strangers). He made up some words supposed to mean "Hello", etc. Bad luck for him, she was the only girl in the whole college knowing some words in the actual language. She laughed, but still married him 3 years later (and they are still together more than 30 years later) ;) Sorry for long comment but it made me think of it ^^
^^^That's super sweet!
Pretty sure if they found you attractive and you came up to them. The first words out of their mouth would not be "what are you doing?" No matter what language you spoke to them.
No, it would be "how you doin'?" ;)
Props for trying!
That's why I just stopped approaching random cute guys in public....
Just leave it at a simple bid of hello then go from there
Shows how much french you know. ydi
merde.....
Je suis desole!!! Je ne c'est pas! au revoir!

The awkwardness that came up thereafter was strong enough to kill a small to medium-sized dog!
Just pretend to be French and maybe they will be into it?
