Today, at a restaurant, I was joking around trying to make my friend laugh by pretending to be a ninja. I did this by putting my napkin in front of my face. I happened to look over at another table and saw that a lady wearing a burqa was giving me the most evil glare I have ever seen in my life. FML

fail ninja! she wasn't supposed to be able to see you!

But then Steve the Pirate would have been offended. The only safe way to make a joke is to be sensitive to EVERYTHING and EVERYONE! Now, if you excuse me, I have a slave ship to steer in the docks nearby.

Am I the only one who thinks OP is a nerd?

Oh, so what. A brainwashed idiot who believes in a woman-hating bronze age myth glared at you. Am I the only one who doesn't understand what's so bad about this? (Cue suicide bomber jokes)

and christians believe in a fairytale that says some one is the son of some all knowing invisible being in the sky. christians believe bullshit just as every other religion. jackass

also i forgot to say. christians are just as brain-washed. they would suicide bomb places if glenn beck told them to. and they di suicide bomb abortion clinics. just as bad as ismlamic extremists.

Yeah, 46, and that goes for ALL Christians, because every single one of them is a suicide bomber. ******* idiot.

i never said all christians are. i said there are some. there are crazies of all religions. if it did sound like it implied that it wasnt supposed to. im sorry if it offended anyone

you never said "all" but you certainly didn't say "some". careful what you say and how you say it. there are so many varieties of christians and you could have a whole bunch of people mad at you in no time.

um green eyes. you got a point. i have a bad habit of saying what i mean in a way that could mean something different. yes i should have said some. thanks for pointing that out.

So I can't post 'first', but a bunch of people can comment on the first post to get to the top? O_o Oh, that's not against the rules?!

don't ask, it just happens. no, it doesn't make sense, but, what does on the Internet?

your comment has nothing to do with the OP and is against the rules and I'm telling. neener neener neener

Most of the first comment replies on this FML are part of a conversation that's very relevant to the FML. "First!" comments, however, are always irrelevant and pointless.

#23 - how on earth do you get that from her pic, and even if it was true, how would it be OK to say that? Douche.

Unless she removed the headpiece in a burqa you wouldn't be able to see her eyes very well, especially from across the room.

You made an innocent mistake. And now you have the sympathy of thousands of strangers, congratulations.

While said harshly, i completely agree with 34... if she didnt want made fun of she should dress like a normal american... yes, i said normal

really? so dressing like a normal american is no longer wearing clothing that is of your native culture? last time i checked there is no 'normal american dress code'. jews wear yamica (those little hats, i dont no how to spell it). so if someone cant wear a burqa. then jews cant wear those.

#44, I totally agree. And Christians can't wear their little cross necklaces either.

There's a difference between retaining ones culture and walking around in clothes which make you nearly unrecognisable. Quite a few European countries have or are planning to ban burqa's for that exact reason.

well. true i guess. but what i mean its wrong to judge one anothers cultural clothing is wrong. true, not good that you cant see their face but there are muslim head scarves where you can see thier face.

That's an oppression to those who wear burqas for religious reasons. This is America, people should be able to wear darn near whatever they want.

And what does a "normal American" look like, pray tell? Last time I checked, people were different with different cultures and different traditions.

#59 - you realise that concept works both ways don't you?

you do understand that that goes against so many human rights codes and just about everything America was. by the way # 65 are you English?

#75 - It's protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, so I'd say it actually IS what America is about. If I remember my US History, freedom of religious expression was a pretty big deal back when the country was founded. Oh, and I'm Australian (although I also hold British dual citizenship) - why do you ask?

Actually, discrimation is not part of the first amendment. They changed the laws long ago, so people can say what they like up to a certain point. After that it becomes a felony.

#90 - I'm not sure from your comment if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me. I'm saying that her right to wear hijab clothing is protected under the First Amendment. I _think_ we're saying the same thing.

51: Then they ought to ban other methods of altering one's appearance, too. What's next, regulating facial hair and heavy make up? I can understand regulating burqas in certain settings, like ID photos or banks, or requiring women to remove it while driving or talking to police, etc. But if they ever tried to ban them outright here in the USA, I'd be all over opposing that shit with petitions and protests and such. I'm not Muslim, and I'm very pro-equality and women's rights, but that kind of law would be unconstitutional and flat-out discriminatory. It totally goes against the separation of church and state, which is very important to me.

Eh, her lack of a sense of humor is her own problem. Don't feel bad.

She thought she wasn't being mad fun of, for her religion, I don't see how that would be humorous to her.
