Today, at my therapy appointment, I was spilling my guts to my therapist. When I'd finished, to get rid of the awkward silence, I asked, "I'm not crazy, right?" His response was, "That's bit of a loaded question." FML

You're worried about being crazy? I worry about being normal! Embrace who you are!

Well he's right. When you ask something like that, you're expecting a specific answer, and you don't want to hear the opposite, hence "loaded question". He wasn't saying you ARE crazy, he was saying that that's a question he didn't want to answer because of its nature. And besides........ who isn't crazy?

Therapists are trained to leave longer moments of silence after you finish talking than with normal conversation. The reason for this is that you might suddenly think of something you wanted to add, or you might end up sharing more than you'd originally intended. As for the loaded question part, lol, I think he probably meant for legal reasons, he can't answer a question directly like that...Some people might see it as making a diagnosis. Don't worry about it, though :). All of us are at least somewhat crazy; it's a sliding scale lol: there is no black and white crazy and not crazy. If you're at least sane enough to ask if you're crazy, you're clearly not too far towards that side of the scale....yet ;).

im pretty sure therapists shouldnt answer questions like that if they said yes then youd think youre crazy and that could mess up the whole therapy process if they said no then youd think that the therapy is unnecessary even if you actually need it

What an arsehole!! Being so flippant in response to someone paying for their professional guidance seems crazy to me!

well next time when she asks you for her fee , you say the same thing"its a loaded question"

I don't think you have a very good psychologist.
