Today, at the job I've had for eight years, I finally got the raise I was supposed to get a year ago. One hour later I found out the store was closing and we were all out of a job in two weeks. FML

Look at it in other ways - if your store pays you redundancy (maybe they do, maybe they don't) then the rate that it's calculated at should be higher because of the raise. I don't know how unemployment is paid where you are, but that also may be higher. When you go for a new job and they ask you what you were earning, you can legitimately quote a higher figure. Either way, you're out of a job, but this raise may not be as useless a gesture as it seems on first glance.

Hmmm i'm gonna guess you were on a computer posting this fml where I don't know...you can LOOK for a job instead?? Just some advice hon :)

Is it possible that OP has already blanketed her city with resumes and has looked online for jobs and is now waiting for a response? Your condescension is uncalled for and presumptuous.

Don't you know that when you're job hunting, you MUST spend every second looking for job postings? You can't take a break for trivial things like eating, sleeping, going to the bathroom, or posting FMLs.!

She probably has filled out resumes and is waiting for a response. Or she could just as the job genie to grant her a job.

at least your boss has a sense of humour!

You got your raise, and it bankrupted the company.

that's like when I worked at wendys they gave raises when they knew minimum wage was gonna go up so the raise in minimum wage would cancel out your raise and you wouldn't get a raise.

lol they actually gave you a full two weeks notice? At my first job they just told me when I got to work that it was going to be my last day because the store was closing. My coworker also tried to get me to let him work for me that day, without telling me the store was closing. Consider yourself lucky!

Considering I haven't gotten a raise in 4 years (I work in the automotive industry, making plastic pieces for Toyota and Mitsubishi), I can't feel sorry for you, OP.

This reminds me of the movie Fun with Dick and Jane. That sucks though.

Your resume' now has a higher ending pay than it did last week. Update it.
