Today, at work, a man walked up the escalator with his chubby kid next to him and asked me where the shoe section was. I said, "For you or your son?" He said, "For my daughter." FML

Maybe that was his son with him, but he had a daughter at home, and needed to get shoes for her...?

I made a similar mistake a while back. I now refer to any child who's gender isn't obvious as 'the little one'.

Um guys before you make a comment correcting the author please reread the fml so you realize some things you might have missed like the guy asking where are shoes not kid shoes.

The children's shoes and adult shoes are usually in separate stores (at least, where I'm from).

"For you or your kid" would probably be a safer thing.. Even if you know gender. Some kids identify differently if they understand what all that means. But honestly.. FHL...

I got it 'round the other way once. Told someone their toddler was a cute daughter. Oh whoops thats your son. Sorry! To be fair he had long hair and was wearing neutral colours. Sue me?

Why does this have so many YDIs? Little kids, despite their actual gender, can look like a boy or a girl simply because their bodies haven't developed much yet.
