Today, for the first time since my partner moved in with me, I did one of my favourite things: I bought some nice cheese and a bottle of wine and went on to People of Walmart, just as I do every month or so. He called me a disgusting human being and went for a walk two hours ago. FML

Actually, it's very different. FML we are laughing at people who said "haha I did this stupid thing". People of Walmart is laughing at people who never wanted to or agreed to have pictures of themselves posted online.

The reader/viewer is finding humor in the misfortune of others = same category. An argument could easily be made that FML is more 'degenerate' than PoWM in that often we are finding amusement in the posters victimhood...not just there superficial 'fashion' choices in a public place.

Except they're not? on FML, people send their own misadventures or those of friends and family, written in an humoristic way in order to cheer other people up or just to vent. When you laugh at the stories, you're not degrading whoever shitty stuff happened to. On PoWM, most people get their pictures posted online to thousands of viewers without their consent, just so everyone can have a good laugh at them. I don't think this can compare.

it sounds like you guys need to communicate better and you should probably look into why you enjoy that so much. it's harmless sure but usually shows evidence to personal issues, such as insecurity etc. this isn't saying you're a terrible person or anything but believe it or not people with a healthy mentality do not get pleasure at others expense. all the best OP,
