Today, for the second time, I met the man I'm having an arranged marriage with in 3 months. I'd previously met him last night, while he was mugging me. FML

The arranged marriage is really the worst part of this FML.

This is one of those situations I really want to hear more about.

Arranged marriage? Seriously!? I really hope you aren't planning to actually marry this guy?

Ugh, the thought of marriage appalls me as it is. I could never allow myself that kind of unjustice.

Sounds like the plot of a bad movie.. You should turn him in to the cops, you have all his info now!

Hello there. If you want to sell your story to a women's mag, give me a shout. Sally Howard writer via google. No unsolicited stories from other FML users, thanks. Sally

Studies show that arranged marriages have the fewest divorces. I find that odd..

It isn't odd at all. They have fewer divorces because YOU CAN'T LEAVE. Either your family will disown you if you do (see many posts above), or the wife is economically dependent on the husband, or the culture frowns heavily upon divorce, or there are legal and social obstacles in countries with arranged marriages.

"She knew that if she ran away she could never speak to her family again- her dad would disown her- " Exactly, and you STILL stay "I cannot change or judge it"? Remember that seeming normal does not equate to being fair, or even unoppressive. To a North Korean, listening to propaganda every day and starving to death would "seem" normal; would you say that you can't judge the North Korean government?

Completely agree with you. Same reason people divorced less, let's say, 40 years ago. They COULD legally but the reality was different. Religion had more power, and it frowns upon divorce so people stayed together miserable (because they literally felt trapped, had no choice) instead of getting a divorce and moving on. Just like kids out of wedlock were frowned upon once. Luckily progress in general is inevitable and religion keeps losing its power so it's only a matter of time that arranged marriages will be thing of the past.

Prearranged marriages tend to be successful than marriages of choice.

If by "more successful" you mean staying longer together while being miserable because you can't leave, then I guess it is.
