Today, I accidentally left my textbook at home. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but today was my class final. Since it was an open-book final, I'd decided not to study for it. I'm pretty sure I failed. FML

Wow, that's kind of ballsy. I always study for open book tests and put little sticky notes in the most important parts for quick reference.

Your still supposed to study for open book tests otherwise you usually don't complete it on time because your busy looking things up.

I'm a straight A student, but I couldn't get my grades without studying. It's impossible to remember every single thing for the exam you learnt over the year without revising it. YDI

I've done it.. In history I sleep in the class and don't study.. Always passed the S.O.L's... (just one example.)

Straight As?! You mean 'revisiting', not 'revising'. Correct?

oj101 33

#45 - Revising means going over/checking again on something. It's a British term for what you Americans call studying but as an Australian, I use both.

Thanks for the clarification. I had never heard it put that way and couldn't see where you are from. Great job on the grades!

Easy fix man just steal someone else's textbook or borrow someone else's from a different period.

Lets me just say what everyone else is saying then. Op you should have studied, bad you. This would have never happened if you studied.

Yea, not sure why you are getting thumbed down, you have a legitimate answer to OPs problem.

Good advice, but I'm pretty sure he already failed.

Not only should you have studied, but that should have been the first thing you checked for before you left.

This is the one FML where I'm happy to press YDI. It's really your fault, you shouldn't be complaining to people on FML. I'm trying not to be nasty, but you really should have studied, and you've got no one to blame except yourself. I'm sorry. xo

I don't think OP is just complaining and complaining- this is an FML whether its a YDI or not.

Yeah I guess, but to me it just sounds like he is complaining and wanting sympathy. Maybe I'm just not good at deciphering Internet speech?

I know everyone keeps saying you should have studied anyway, but let's get real here: every single one of you makes sure you study even if it's open book? Doubtful; I'm nuts about my grades and I still don't bother studying if its open book! (Just being honest) However, I'm super paranoid about leaving my book at home, so I always make sure to set a reminder on my phone or stick notes where I can see them to make sure I grab my book. Sorry OP, that sucks! :(

If you don't study for an open-book test, then you spend the entire time looking stuff up and you don't have enough time to write the answers.

I never really studied for tests, though I never really felt that I needed to since I already understood what had been taught. The one time i studied was for science, and it was the only test that I failed so I figured I was better off not studying. I can understand the OP not preparing, the only thing they really should have done is double check that they had the book.

I always studied for every test, open book or closed book. My professors in college made sure if they gave an open book test and didn't study there was no possible way to complete it. Once time was up you had to stop writing immediately and turn your test face down or you failed. So yes I always studied for open book tests. You are an idiot if you don't at least go through the book, and mark important parts.

BubbleGrunge 18

49-You can't call me an idiot for not studying for an open book exam if I've never failed an open book exam!

Pretty much... Not everyone has the almighty brain of yours that can remember things without studying. I hate open book tests because they are usually harder and take longer. I'm not sure what classes you took but if you seriously didn't study for any... Either you are a genius or you had a very easy major, OR didn't go to college.

67-I'm a current college student, I'm wasn't trying to be rude I was just stating a fact. Personally, I've always spent my time on studying subjects that weren't open book than to study subjects that were. Yes, open book test can be harder, but I'm my experience (so far) I've faired fine. My major has nothing to do with anything; my education classes are the same ones teachers, pharmacist, pre-med, and business majors.

Your major has everything to do with your grades. Whatever professors say, grades are always partly relative; so it depends on whether your peers care about the subject. Also, grades depend on which college you go to, especially in these days where more students mean more money.

As your name implies, are you REALLY a grad student? Open book means the professor is letting you use the book for reference. If you don't study and just try to answer every question by looking in your book for the answer and copy it onto your test, you will NOT have enough time to finish your exam.

You idiot jk jk. Next time make sure u have it

You should have just acted like you were violently sick and ask to reschedule the test. Problem solved.
