Today, I agreed to catsit for a friend. Her cat rode back to my house sitting on my shoulder in the car. As soon as I opened the door, he jumped out and ran off into the woods. It's been 2 1/2 hours and not even food will entice him back to me. FML

Losing your friends cat really sucks and I hope you get it back. However, it should've been transported in a kennel. Keeping a loose animal in the car, especially riding on you while driving, is dangerous, they hit you in the wrong place or freak out and it can cause an accident. A crate also would've prevented it from escaping when you opened the car.

Get ready to start apologizing to your friend. I'm with #6. Pets need to be transported in carriers to avoid this exact situation. Your friend should have given you one.

YDI for not restraining the cat! My cat doesn't travel well in a carrier so he's harnessed and leashed with a seatbelt leash (so he's restrained safely) for exactly this reason. That being said, put his/her litter box outside and/or a their bed--their own scent can help him feel more comfortable/find their way back.

are you FUR real!? That's CLAWful! LITTERally the worst ting that could happened

Although, yes, OP definitely should've used a carrier instead of a shoulder to hold the cat, unfortunately that is in the past and we can't change that; the most we can do now is hope OP finds the missing cat and updates us on the situation.

Being a long-time cat owner, I am surprised that you worked together to decide that tapering the cat is in any way advisable. Cats don't typically enjoy such changes in location and even spayed females will mark territory. I would suggest searching near your friend's home first. Good luck!

Got no clue how "transporting" came out as "tapering" on my phone. Autocorrect...

If the cat is not back yet then the closest chinese restaurant has or had him. Just saying.....

I'm sorry but that is totally irresponsible. the cat should have been in a carrier. most cats do not come when called. ydi

Are you serious? What did you think would happen when you opened the door? That's completely incompetent.

I cannot believe you'd be so careless.
