Yes, he could have handled that a lot more politely. But I guess you can't make someone like you.
Not so surprising if you confessed it totally out of the air.
I know the feeling OP, but I do think you should of had tried a bit more tactic. I mean, if a guy likes you, it will show. Maybe going for a casual lunch, or a coffee would have been able to break the ice between you two. I actually tried that with my co-worker and it worked out great, we've been dating for a few months now. But, hey... I'm not a big believer in the everyone has someone meant for them, but I'm sure you'll find someone for you. And as far as the guy's reaction goes, well, all guys have weird reactions to feelings, laughing hysterically for one minute it's just one of them.
How did you get internet access in the 1950s?
Why are you people so afraid of a confession? Seriously, if a girl confesses her feelings to me, there are three possibilities : 1) I don't like her back and I politely tell her. 2) I like her back and everything is fine. 3) I have never thought of going out with her, but you never know what can happen, and I invite her for a drink. And that is how it works, clear and simple, damn.
That sucks
You make him laugh! That's a start.

Laughing on his part was wrong. But really, why are people confessing love to coworkers especially if they are unsure if the feelings are mutual. It puts both of you in a real awkward position. IMO, telling someone you like them or asking them on a casual date is way more appropriate then confessing love. That comes off real intense and many people don't know how to react.
keep your head up! He obviously wasn't for you!
