ppl are SO mean here. i think the OP is just picky. just about ANYONE can get a bf if they really want to, but we all have standards. i'm in the same boat here, been single for a few years now while all my friends are getting married. just been extremely picky, had enough with guys wasting my time. OP, treat singleness as a gift. I know it really sucks sometimes, but think of it this way, you have time and opportunity to do things that you may never get a chance to do again once you're married with kids. if anything, these people envy your freedom more than you envy their engagement and marriage.

Being engaged does not necessarily mean you will be getting married and are going to have a happy life. It just means that's what those two people are intending to do. you need to lighten up and relax a bit. You'll find the right person for you eventually, it takes time. It took me 4-5 serious long term relationship, one marriage, and 7 years into this relationship I'm still not certain I've got it right ... but I'm happy and committed. Relationships often fail, even when people are engaged or married. You are FAR better off taking your time, dating for as long as you need and finding the right guy. Here's a couple of tips below. Find a Hobby that would normally attract the kind of guy you would want and join up. Get a dog if you like pets, and take walks in a popular dog walking area. Reach outside your social group, make new friends, the guy you want is probably not in your group. Open up your criteria, some really great guys have already been married and have kids to someone else, thats ok, someone else broke him in, you get the good stuff with none of the hard work. New Zealand has a serious male/female imbalance, you WILL have to work to find the right guy. It is ok to start a relationship with someone to see where it leads, and then end it when it's not right. Being engaged or married doesnt make a relationship great, it just makes it committed. There are plenty of unhappy married people out there. You can get commitment from a great guy when he's ready without the ring and party. In fact without the commitment focus, your relationships might well last alot longer.

I feel like the OP isn't complaining about not having a current boyfriend/fiance/husband so much as not having EVER had a relationship, while her friends have had relationships serious enough to end up getting engaged.
