That is why you never help the homeless unless you are in a vehicle or indirectly donating. some of them are down on their luck, and some of them are criminals that spend all their money on their habits. Both cases are sad, but you have to protect yourself. They aren't lost puppies needing love, they are desperate people that have been driven to do things most consider immoral.

I praise you for your kindness, but at the same time, don't they have shelters, goodwill, salvation army, or red cross to help out? Some people have the "give an inch take a mile" attitude. Next time just donate to your local shelter, they will deliver these items to them, that way you get to help someone less fortunate without getting mugged :D
