It's really not advisable to use Chinese lanterns for this reason! So many homes, cars, animals, and trees etc get hit by them and damaged.

I hope everything turned out alright! As in, I hope the neighbor's house didn't also catch fire, leading to later lawsuits after the police found the charred remains of your lantern in said tree.
