Today, I came out to my therapist as gay. Claiming that my parents "can't be that homophobic", my therapist outed me to them. They kicked me out of the house. FML

Today, I came out to my parents and siblings as gay. They were very accepting and asked me why I waited until I was 25 to do so. I didn't have the heart to tell them it was their own homophobic remarks that kept me closeted since I realized it at 14, and that a previous coming-out to a parent was dismissed as 'a phase'. FML

Today, my step-sister told me that she was getting married to her girlfriend next summer. At a big family brunch, I made a toast to their marriage. I didn't know that my step-mom didn't know they were dating in the first place, or that she was severely homophobic. FML

Today, I found out that my mother has been telling everybody that I’m a lesbian, because both of her best friends have at least one gay child each, and she was feeling left out. This explains why people have been treating me differently the last few weeks. FML

Because the reality is that with homophobic family they probably won't be. Many LGBT kids are thrown out of home after their family finds out (a very high proportion of the homeless is LGBT youth).

I know it's hard but you should really come out to your family but only once your in a safe environment and don't depend on them for money. I'm just so shocked that people out there are really so judgmental about LOVE. It's sick.

Because it puts op in a lot of danger. Op needs to come out eventually, but for many it's a lot safer when they are out on their own so they don't risk homelessness.
