Today, I dropped my car keys down the elevator shaft at my dorm. I had parked my car at a parking meter, and now had no way to get change out of my car. It took six hours for someone to get my keys, and I now have a $75 parking ticket. FML

How the hell did you drop your keys down an elevator shaft?

Then you get a report from the person who retrieved your keys and take it to court to fight the ticket. Easy!

You might be able to win if you contest it in court. See what the ticket says for procedures and then just dress nice, go in, and explain what happened to the judge. If you have the time s/he might let it slide, especially if the cop doesn't come in to argue it either.

Even if the cop was there, if she can prove her story, it shouldn't be a problem. It's not like a speeding ticket where they can fight it. It's simply a parking ticket, and if she has a valid reason as to why she couldn't move her car, they should let it go.

if you go to the judge and explain your predicament, i'm sure he might wave the fee. and if you can provide papers from the maintanance who had to retrieve your keys, you can prove a fair case.

YDI for not securing your keys. (Try a pocket next time.)

Yeah, because no one ever gets their keys out before they get to a door they want to open. How absolutely stupid of them.

boo ******* hoo $75 is not even a big deal and how the hell do you drop your keys down an elevator shaft?

Some elevators have a gap between the car and the floor you're getting off on. Depending on how many keys were on the ring, it could get through a crack smaller than an inch. It's not as hard as you might think.

Why do you not have at least one spare key?

You could probably fight that, and also it's $75.
