Today, I faced my severe phobia of spiders in order to remove a rather large one from my home. After 20 minutes of desperate struggling, it was finally taken care of. Relieved, I sat down and glanced across the hallway just in time to see a second, equally large spider strutting across the wall. FML

Lepisma tells us more.

I usually handle smaller spiders okay unless they surprise me, but these guys were big. This happened at about 1 am last night and my housemate was asleep, so a vacuum was not an option. I did use big spray. In fact, I nailed the first one three times and it shrugged it off like a BAMF (it was a Texan spider, after all). I actually already have a cat - two, in fact. They were very interested in the spiders, but I didn't want them to get bitten, so I didn't let them get close enough to attack. I finally got the first one in a cup with a lid and filled that sucker up with the bug spray. That worked! Then I saw the second one and about died, myself. It ended up under a cup eventually, too, and met Mr. Shoe. Thanks for the suggestions, though - they made me laugh!

Vacuum it up! I find it's the easiest way to kill bugs without having to squish it... I can't stand that feeling

for everyone telling the OP to get a cat, it doesn't work with all cats. some are lazy or could care less about bugs. my cat is actually afraid of bugs. she sees one and runs away. i say call the exterminator or pest control!

Huntsman? Because they hunt in pairs. /shudder/ every time I kill one I'm then on watch for the other.

I live in Texas and dear lord the spiders here get crazy. I keep seeing tarantulas while I'm at parks and I see them a lot in my home, it's like my life is a living nightmare

I'm very afraid of spiders! I like to use the vacuum hose to suck those little F-Ning things up or aerosol cans like fabreeze or hair spray... Really anything with alc in it to kill them

I feel your pain OP! I also have a rather strong fear of spiders and yet I don't think that there has been a single day in the last two weeks that i haven't come across one in my own house, sitting on the wall like he pays rent... They're even starting to invade my dreams...

I'm the one that has to put them outside and I'm just as afraid of them as my daughter is. The things you'll do for your kids. Lol!

I keep a tarantula about the size of my palm in a cage, yet people have spider phobias. What a diverse world.

I have a arachnophobia too! Except my dad thinks I'm faking my phobia and forces me to throw them out of my window myself. Needless to say, there is a TON of sobbing on my part. I even have a special cup in my room just for that specific reason. As soon as I saw the words 'phobia of spiders' I immediately pressed FYL. I feel your pain.

I read somewhere that you're never that far from a spider at any given time. When you're scared of them, your mind sees it as being a lot bigger then it really is. I'm not a fan myself.
