Today, I finally worked up the guts to add the guy I like on Facebook. To make it less obvious, I added 15 other people as well. Everyone added me back, except him. FML

Don't jump to conclusions. Give it time, sometimes friends of mine have taken months to accept my friend requests.

exactly. i never add unknown people because my phone number and stuff are on my facebook - i have only about 200 friends, all of whom i know and trust irl.

200? Whom you know and trust in real life? I freak out at knowing a dozen people and even then I don't trust them all. 200 is just overkill for me.

not really, i'm in college so there are teachers, classmates, other irrelevant people who need my contact details generally. also, there are around 50 family members. don't judge until you actually know the situation... and honestly, i have several friends whose facebook is the same as mine, but just with 1000 friends.

There's no way to tell. If someone declines it, it will just stay in your pending requests until you cancel it.

No it won't. If they ignore it, it will say there. But if they decline it, when you look at their page you have the option to add friend again.

That's not true anymore. The immediate option is "Not now". To delete the request you have to go to their profile and click "Respond to friend request" where it has the delete option or go to the list of friend requests people have sent you.

How well do you know the guy you like? If he barely knows you, it shouldn't be a complete surprise. Lots of people only add close friends and family. Why not send him a message first to chat before just adding him?

Well now at least you have 15 new friends on fb (: don't really see the logic though since I don't think it shows peoples new friends unless they were all good friends of his in rl he wouldn't know.

It shows up at the top, near the personal information. It'll say "recently became friends with:" or something like that.

Just work up the guts and talk to him. If he likes you back, great. If he doesn't, you'll know not to wait on him and get your hopes up.
