Today, I found a phone in a fitting room. I called the number that said "home" to let the owner know that I was going to give it to the store's manager. Apparently the husband didn't know his wife was out shopping and "blowing all his earnings". FML

Enslaved tells us more.

OP here! First off, when I called the number, a man answered. When I told him I found a phone,(an iPhone5c for those that are curious) he told me to "**** off" and that I had the wrong number, then hung up on me. He called the phone back a few minutes later and I could hear him yelling to what I assumed was his wife/GF in the background. He was asking her if she went out shopping? and how dare she spend his money, plus lose her phone! I did give the phone to the manager of the department store and told the man to pick it up there tomorrow if he wants it, since the store was already closed for the night. My heart is just uneasy because I know that my call caused what seems to be an argument between the lady that owns the phone and an irate man. I could tell he was very controlling and she was very afraid of him.

Just tell him how much you saved him by finding the phone.

Your call didn't cause anything. Her lying about going off shopping and his attitude in general started the argument between them.

So? Why is this an FML. I think it might be a FML for the phone owner like "Today, I lost my phone in a fitting room whilest secretly shopping so that my aggressive husband doesn't throw a tantrum. Sbd found it and called him. He now knows. FML"

There is not going to be one. That is not a FML. You haven't even pointed out that the husband was VERY angry. Maybe then it would pass.

You are a good human for not stealing it.

it would pass as a FML either way. but yes pointing out how angry the husband was would make it better. from OP's follow up id say it would probably also include cops and a hospital.

Maybe it was actually her dad? Then I would understand why he would be angry to some extent. Otherwise that's pretty fkd up. Either way, he sounds too controlling. Oh, and we need more people like you OP. Most people would have kept the phone nowadays.

Looks like ur gonna get cursed instead of reward :p

You did the right thing. You didn't cause any of their problems. She went shopping and lost her phone. She may be one of those people that shop even when they have bills to pay instead, who knows. If it had been left in the dressing room and the husband tracked the phone to find it, he would have discovered the truth anyway.

"His earnings" laughable unless in fact, she doesn't contribute to the finances at all.

The man could atleast be thankful you were honest and returned the phone most people would have taken it for themselves .
