So... they didn't want to see you upset, so they left a note (clipping) so they wouldn't have to be there for a hug if you needed one? How heartless.
#11, nice assumptions. You don't know that. And even if that is what happened, it's still a pretty horrible thing to do.
#12, I think #11 was commenting on HOW horrible it was to tell him that way
So, um, you don't communicate with him often enough to have noticed?
That's horribly sad. I'm usually the last one to find out about these sorts of things, too. When my grandfather passed, I happened to be living out of state and was just in for the weekend because it was Mother's Day. In all honesty, I don't think anyone would have thought to tell me if I hadn't been there. I think I would have found out when I called to wish my mom and grandmother Happy Mother's Day.
That's happened to me, too. I found out about my sister getting married when I happened to see her wedding pictures on Facebook, by chance. My dad was upset with me for not giving him a call often enough so when he heard his sister had cancer and was going to die from it, he didn't tell me. He spesifically told me it was because he was upset with me. He told me only after she had died. I wonder how he thought that would encourage me to talk to him more often.
Maybe your parents couldn't bear to tell you themselves, and they knew you'd find the obituary.

You have no idea how many times that has happened to me. Not just with death, but with like people in my family becoming pregnant, my aunt getting engaged, my uncle proposing to his girlfriend, and many other things. My mom doesn't tell me anything. And my dad's just oblivious hahaha.
that is terrible i'm sorry
